Letter from the Opinion Editor

Hello all!

As the new Opinion Editor of the Dickinsonian, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Tess Harrington. Besides the Dickinsonian, I am also a member of Pi Beta Phi.

This is my first year as an editor; last year I was abroad the full academic year in Norwich and Copenhagen. As editor this year I have two main goals. I plan to expand the scope of contributing writers, with the goal of having consistent contributing opinion writers from all grades. A second goal of mine is to increase the amount of responses of the question of the week, thus increasing the dialogue between the Dickinsonian and students.

As said previously, this is my first time back in our beloved Carlisle in over a year. As exciting as returning to the limestone bubble has been for me, it has been bittersweet as well.

The current grief this campus is experiencing is undeniable and shared amongst us all. For all who find a release through the written word, I encourage you to reach out to the Dickinsonian. Whether it be grief, frustration, or even just stress regarding classes, I personally have always found a great release in writing.

To shamelessly quote Shakespeare; “Give sorrow words; the grief that does not speak knits up the o-er wrought heart and bids it break.” I chose this quotation because it has always held a notable significance for me, and it seems particularly appropriate for this week.

As your fellow Dickinsonian, I wish you all a safe and healthy week. Again, please do not hesitate to reach out to me, whether it be an interest in the Dickinsonian, or just an interest to keep a dialogue going.
