Men’s Squash Ends at #55

This weekend, the Dickinson men’s squash team traveled to Connecticut to compete in the CSA team championships. On Friday, February 20, the Red Devils fell to the College of Charleston, the second ranked team in the G Division, 6-3.

Tucker Mitchell ’17, who went undefeated on the weekend, and Preston Miller ‘17 were able to secure two hard fought victories despite their tough opponents. Miller won the battle in the #2 spot after rallying from a 2-0 deficit. Mitchell claimed the eighth flight in three straight sets, and the last victory came from James Fisher ’18 in the ninth flight.

On Saturday, Feb. 21, the Red Devils lost to another tough opponent in University of Washington, 8-1. In this match, Mitchell claimed the lone victory in a 3-1 decision. Sam Portelance ’18 went five sets in the three spot, but eventually fell 11-0, 0-11, 5-11, 11-9, 7-11.

Dickinson squash was able to end their inaugural season on a high note with a 6-3 victory over Siena on Sunday, Feb. 22. Miller, Jay Mayers ’16, Mitchell, and Fisher all won decisive matches 3-0. Jeffrey Chamberlin ’17 fought hard in the seventh flight to earn a 3-2 decision. Portelance also capped off the weekend with a five set marathon.
This match concluded the Red Devils’ team season with a 3-14 record and a #55 national ranking. Next weekend, Feb. 27-March 1, first-years Nick Struzinski and Stuart Lemay of the women’s team will represent the Red Devils at Princeton for the CSA Individual Championships.
