Men’s Lax Starts Out Conference Play 0-2

The Dickinson men’s lacrosse team dropped its third and fourth consecutive games on Wednesday, March 25 and Saturday, March 28 to McDaniel and Ursinus, respectively.
The Red Devils got off to a promising start in their game against McDaniel thanks to 3 unassisted goals by Chris Menard ’16, Tyler Strods ’18, and Tyler Llewellyn ’18 after McDaniel got on the board first after just 1:32 played.

The second quarter started off promising as well, with Llewellyn finding the back of the net off an assist from Strods to bring the score to 4-1 just 45 seconds into the quarter. The Green Terror countered with a 3-0 run of their own to bring the score even at 4 heading into the half.

McDaniel scored twice in the third quarter and Jason Lawrence found the net early in the fourth to give McDaniel a 3-goal lead with 14:30 left to play in regulation. Connor Murphy ’18 scored 2 consecutive goals in the span of 2:22 to bring the Red Devils within 1 with 10:26 left in the contest.

McDaniel managed to stretch their lead back to 2 when Patrick Serio scored his third goal of the day with 7:53 left to play. Menard countered with his second goal of the day to bring Dickinson back within 1 with 2:23 left. The Red Devils managed to get the ball back as the clock wound down but Menard’s shot was saved by Eric Ritchie and McDaniel managed to run out the clock for the win, 8-7.

Menard tallied 2 goals and 2 assists and brought in 4 rebounds on the day. D.J. Henderson ’15 grabbed 3 GBs and forced 2 turnovers as Slay Sudah ’15 caused 3 turnovers and gathered a pair of GBs. Greg Castro ’16 won 9 face-off and Nick Baxter ’16 saved 12 goals.

Dickinson started of slow against Usinus, as the Bears outscored the Red Devils 4-0 in the first quarter, adding a fifth goal to start off the second. Menard scored Dickinson’s first goal of the day off of an assist from Llewellyn with 4:05 to play in the first half.

The game’s next goals came after the break, with the Bears scoring the only 2 goals of the third quarter, stretching the margin to 7-1. Mark Stratton widened the gap even more by netting his 15th goal of the season at the 6:40 mark to put Ursinus up 8-1. Menard and George Mazarakis ’15 both managed to score in the fourth, but the Bears’ defense stopped any further scoring, clinching an 8-3 victory.

Menard scored 2 goals and picked up 4 GBs while Llewellyn dished out an assist and grabbed a GB and Castro won 10 of 14 face-offs and collected 4 GBs. Baxter finished the game with 14 saves and 4 GBs picked up.

With this pair of losses, the Red Devils drop to 2-6 overall and 0-2 in the Centennial Conference. They host the Black Squirrels of Haverford College next Saturday, April 4 at Biddle Field starting at 3 PM.
