Home Loss Stains Strong Week for Men’s Soccer

It’s more than likely that the men’s soccer team slept soundly Saturday night. The team had an exhausting week, playing three games, while tallying two wins.

On Tuesday, September 15 Dickinson recorded its third win, traveling to Goucher and defeating the Gophers 2-0. The game was a one sided affair with Dickinson outshooting Goucher 8-1 in the opening half. However, it wasn’t until the 69th min that the Red Devils found the net. Sophomore Matt Edmonds’18 hit senior Alfred Hylton-Dei’16 who finished beautifully. That was the first of three goals he had in the week, earning him Centennial Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors. In the 83 min, first-year Ward Van de Water’19 put the game away with a shot from the distance. The Red Devils thoroughly dominated Goucher allowing only one shot on goal to record the shutout.

After a tough 2-1 loss mid-week to Alvernia University, the Red Devils didn’t stay down for long as they turned around on Saturday, September 19 and defeated Washington College 2-0 in their Centennial Conference opener with Alfred Hylton-Dei striking for the third game in a row only four minutes in. The match stayed even after the goal as the Shoremen forced goalie Jeremy Palcan’17 to make five first half saves. The same kind of game continued into the second half until Hylton-Dei found sophomore Ryan Brown’18 for Dickinson’s second goal.

Dickinson completed the shutout and improved to 4-2. They travel to the University of Mary Washington on Wednesday, September 23 for a 5:00 kickoff against the Eagles.
