Men’s and Women’s Golf Look to Round into Form as Season Comes into Swing

The men’s and women’s golf teams have been hard at work as spring continues to push through the cold of winter, and these two teams are pushing to get into midseason form as we get further into April.

The women’s team placed sixth in the Eastern University Spring Invitational on Tuesday, Mar. 29. Two Red Devils placed inside the top 20 individually. Alexis Emmett ’19 was the low Red Devil on the day as she carded a 94. Stephanie Heiring ’17 came in just one shot back at 95. Caroline Gabriele ’18 also had a nice day for Dickinson coming in with a 102. Gillian Fennell was the last Red Devil to card a score for the day as Dickinson combined to shoot 407. The Red Devils finished sixth in a 12-team field including several Division II programs.

Just three days later the Red Devils were back on the links for the Gettysburg Invitational at Hanover Country Club. Heiring once again performed very well for Dickinson, carding a team low 88 on the day to finish T-6 overall. Emily Rieder ’19 had a nice day for herself as well, coming in under 100 with a 95. Emmett and Gabriele came in at an even 100 strokes each. Lisi Mueller ’18 finished out with the scoring for Dickinson with a 102, counting for a team score of 390, just one stroke behind McDaniel.

On the men’s side, the Red Devils have hit a bit of a rough patch. On Monday, Mar. 28 the Red Devils travelled to Lebanon Country club for the Lebanon Valley Invitational.  Two sophomores lead the way for Dickinson on the afternoon. Ryan Kowash ’18 carded a team low 84 that netted him a top-20 finish, while Jake Kessel ’18 came in with an 89 on the day. Stephan Bonacci ’19 more then held his own as a first-year, coming in with a 91. Evan Fried ’16 and George Voris ’16 finished out the scoring or Dickinson with scores of 93 and 94 respectively. Moravian claimed the title with a team score of 324, including the overall champion at 74.

On Wednesday, Apr. 7 Dickinson travelled to Hershey, Pa. for the Elizabethtown Blue Jay Classic. The Red Devils played well as a collective, as each scoring member finished in the 80’s. Bobby McFadden ’19 was the low Red Devil for the tournament with a round of 80. Two Red Devils, Stephen Hoefer ’17 and Kowash, finished just one shot back of McFadden with a pair of 81’s. Bonacci continued his strong play with an 84, while Fried finished it out with a round of 87. The Red Devils carded a team top-10 with their ninth place score of 326.

Both teams will butt heads with the Bullets this weekend. The women’s team will host Gettysburg in a dual match at Mayapple Golf Links this Friday, Apr. 15 at 2:30 p.m. The men’s team will travel to Hanover Country Club the day after for the Gettysburg Invitational beginning at 12:30 p.m.
