Men’s Cross Country Places Fifth at NCAA Regionals

The Red Devil men’s cross country team finished fifth in the NCAA Mideast Regional Championships.

The Dickinson men’s cross country team finished fifth out of a field of 52 teams at the 2016 NCAA Mideast Region Championships on Saturday, November 12, but missed out on a bid to the National Championships next weekend. The Centennial Conference claimed the top two spots in the tournament as Johns Hopkins slipped past Haverford by just one point, 65-64. The conference had 12 runners in the top 20 and six in the top 10 on the afternoon.

The Red Devils improved from an eighth place showing in 2015 as Mason Hepner ’17 led the way, earning NCAA All-Mideast Region honors with a 17th place finish, crossing the line with a time of 25:32.

Bryce Descavish ’20 ran to All-Region honors as well, placing 34th overall with a time of 25:57. He was named to the All-Region Freshman team as the second first-year in the individual standings.

Eric Herrmann ’19 finished in the top 50, crossing the line 47th with a time of 26:21.

Nathan Udell ’18 and Patrick Nolan ’17 clocked identical times of 26:32 while Matt Loalbo ’20 and Duncan Hopkins ’19 came in at 27:46 and 28:34, respectively.

Widener University took home the top-two individual spots on the way to a sixth place finish in the team standings. Ernie Pitone finished six seconds ahead of teammate Will McDermott with a winning time of 24:52.
