Men’s Basketball Earns Two Conference Wins

The Dickinson men’s basketball team posted a big Centennial Conference win over visiting McDaniel College to keep pace in the standings with a 53-50 victory on Wednesday night, February 1.

McDaniel opened the game with a three-pointer and held the lead throughout the first half. The Red Devils, however, put together a 10-3 run to cut the deficit to 1 point at the 6:29 mark. Harrison Brown ’19 knocked down a three-pointer to pull Dickinson within one, with just over five minutes to play before the half.

McDaniel built the lead back up to six just before halftime, holding a 31-25 advantage. They would stretch the margin to nine in the opening four minutes of the second half, but the Red Devils came alive, rattling off 10-straight points to pull in front, 40-39, with 10:26 remaining.

The teams were even, 45-45, before Bryce Allen ’20 buried a three-pointer from the corner, knocking down an assist from Mike Hinckley ’19, to put Dickinson in front for good as they held on for a 53-50 victory.

Moses Romocki ’18 led the Red Devils with 14 points, five rebounds and two assists while going 4-for-6 from the free throw line.

The Red Devils overcame a tough first half to finish strong and overtake visiting Johns Hopkins, 61-57, on Saturday afternoon, February 4.

A low scoring start saw Hopkins take an early 8-point lead before Romocki hit a jumper and Allen cut the lead to four with a pair of free throws but Hopkins managed to pull in front by 10 with 3:54 remaining in the first half.

Elijah Wright ’20 answered with a three-point play but the Blue Jays would stretch the margin back to 11. Allen hit the final shot of the half to cut the lead to nine at the break.

Brown provided crucial plays as Dickinson steadily closed the margin and later managed to pull out in front. Brown scored twice, around a Wright three-pointer to five the Red Devils a 44-43 advantage with 9:21 remaining in the game. An already intense crowd erupted as Allen assisted Jule Brown ’19 for a huge dunk and Justus Melton ’18 hit a jumper to put Dickinson up by eight with 2:36 left to play. Hopkins rallied but the Devils held on to claim a 61-57 victory.

Wright led the Red Devils with 12 points while Melton scored 11 points on 4-of-7 shooting. Allen finished with eight points and five rebounds. The Red Devils improve to 12-9 overall and 9-5 in the Centennial Conference. They travel to Gettysburg College on Wednesday night for an 8 p.m. tip-off.
