As the temperatures have been creeping lower and lower, people are beginning to dress for the cold season.

One big trend I have noticed is corduroy pants. Corduroy has always been around in the past, but this season it is making a major comeback. Corduroy is a material made of twisted fibers that have been woven together. The cloth creates parallel lines, which makes the pattern of a “cord.” This is where the word “corduroy,” comes from. The material is durable and thick making it perfect for cold weather. Here on campus I have noticed people wearing corduroy pants in various colors and styles. For example, I have seen colors such as red, light orange and light purple; however, the most popular colors are tan, caramel and brown. If you want to stay warm this season while being stylish, I would recommend purchasing a pair of corduroy pants.

Another trend I have noticed is vests; puffer, quilted and fleece.. Vests make a practical layering piece in the cold weather because they add a bit of style to a simple outfit. Puffer vests are great for the lower temperatures because they are an easy alternative to a coat. They provide a layer of warmth to an outfit without the bulk of a coat. While quilted vests are not as warm as puffer vests, quilted vests act more as an accessory to an outfit. Adding a bright colored or patterned quilted vest can turn a simple outfit into a trendy one. Like puffer vests, fleece vests are a great substitute for a jacket. Fleece vests provide more of a comfortable look to an outfit. For example, wearing a fleece vest over a sweatshirt will keep you warm and cozy in cold weather.

Next time you are puzzled thinking about what to wear in these cold temperatures, consider wearing a pair of corduroy pants or throwing on a vest over a thick sweater or sweatshirt.
