CS3 Will Host Event to Promote Sense of “Belonging”

On Saturday, April 28, Justice Served will be hosting Share a Table, Share Stories, an event that the program hopes will allow members to leave with “a sense of belonging and having made a connection with others which would not have been possible in their regular, everyday lives,” says Justice Served Coordinator Nora Krantz ’18.

“At Share A Table, Share Stories, guests will have the opportunity to speak about heritage, culture, family, geographic placement and displacement,” says Krantz.

Representatives of the Bosnian Islamic Cultural Center of Carlisle and the Pennsylvania Center for Refugees and Immigrants will be present to discuss their journeys to the United States. Attendees will have the opportunity hear their stories and “eat traditional food prepared by the members, have the chance to view and bid on art created by members of the two centers and the Dickinson Community and more” says Krantz.

Krantz adds that this event speaks to the larger mission of Justice Served, part of the Center for Service, Spirituality and Social Justice (CS3), which is “to bring together many individuals currently residing in the Carlisle area to speak about their experiences and to break down barriers.”

“This event is important to attend because so often we hear the statistics of displaced individuals and communities and the horrible events that cause that displacement,” says Krantz, “but we rarely have the opportunity to turn those feelings of grief around and meet the actual people who have been affected by global tragedies.”

“It is important to remember that we are all individuals,” adds Krantz, “and to group many people together as ‘refugees’ for the purpose of sympathizing the victim can be harmful.”

Share a Table, Share Stories will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Allison Community Room. Tickets are $5 in advance and $7 at the door. For tickets, email [email protected].
