LGBTQQIAAP Rights: Why it should be a part of the Republican Party Platform

As we all know, the traditional platform that the Republican Party espouses is not very accepting of the LGBTQ community.

That is not to say that everyone who identifies as Republican agrees with this platform, but the Republican Party as an entity has not backed LGBTQ issues like the Democratic Party has. Why is this?

If you think about it, the core idea of the Republican Party is that of individual rights and freedoms.

The right to bear arms is probably the most cited example of this idea that individuals have the right to live his or her life without interference, but the Republican party also typically jumps to defend the right to vote, the right to free speech, the right to practice whichever religion one chooses.

If you think about it, the Republican Party fights for the right to be yourself. So it only makes sense that this should include one’s sexuality…doesn’t it? Imagine, Rick Perry campaigning on a platform extolling the 28th Amendment: the Right to One’s Sexuality.

Unfortunately, this is not how things are.

But why? It seems to me that Republicans should embrace this other facet of personal freedom, and that, in fact, it would be hypocritical of them to not do so.
