Men’s Soccer Falls to Washington

The No. 5-seeded Dickinson men’s soccer team suffered a first round loss to Washington College on Wednesday night, bringing their Centennial Conference playoff run to an end.

The Shoremen dominated before the break, creating many chances in the first half. They eventually took the lead in minute 35 when Cole Strong finished off an assist from Demitri Kaliakin to score what would be the only goal of the game.

The Red Devils had goalkeeper Jeremy Palcan ’17 to be thankful for as he made numerous crucial saves to keep Dickinson in the game. The hosts kept the pressure on as Chris Lewandowski directed a header just over the cross bar and Palcan punched out another bending corner.

The Red Devils answered with two strong shots and, later made a counter attack that led to a nice cross, but no one was able to get a foot on the ball on the back end.

Lewandowski broke free but Palcan made a sliding tackle to knock the ball away. He would later earn a penalty kick but Palcan brilliantly denied Washington another goal.

Dickinson rallied and produced two great chances in the final minute but ultimately drew a blank. Washington improves to 10-6-2 on the season, holding a 20-11 shot advantage with the Devils recording nine after the break.

Palcan finished with six saves on the night as the Red Devils finish 8-8-2 overall and bow out of the tournament.
