The Dickinson volleyball team dropped a trio of matches last week against Franklin & Marshall, Muhlenberg, and DeSales.

The Dickinson volleyball team has served everything they could to their competition in the past week. The Red Devils faced a difficult schedule with 4 games within the span of one week, two of which were part of a Tri-Match that took place at Muhlenberg College.

Wednesday, September 20 was the home opener for the team against Franklin & Marshall. Dickinson put up a fight to the very end, putting up 23 points in the final set but fell short of the Diplomats’ 25 that gave them the win in the end.

Unfortunately, Dickinson came out of the match with a 0-3 loss but not without drawing a great attendance from their home fans. Students from many other Dickinson sports teams as well as from across the school attended the home opener. Bridget Williams ’21, attended the game with her team and commented on the feeling in the Kline Center throughout the game, saying that, “The energy in the gym was awesome.”

Norma Jean Park ’18 found her fair share of success during the match, racking up seven kills, four digs, four block assists, and a pair of aces.

On Saturday, September 23 the Red Devils traveled to Muhlenberg College for their tri-match against the Mules and the Bulldogs of DeSales University. In the face of adversity Dickinson fought tooth and nail through every set in the match. Against Muhlenberg they posted final set scores of 20-25, 17-25, 20-25, falling in three sets despite keeping things close throughout the match. The team continued on against DeSales with 19-25, 19-25, 25-23, and 24-26 results, winning one set but eventually dropping the match, 3-1.

Although both matches ended in losses, the team maintained their skill and teamwork and pushed forward to face Elizabethtown on Monday, September 25. Elizabethtown won a 3-0 victory over the Red Devils, but the team is not backing down from the difficult matches that are thrown in their direction.

The Red Devils’ overall record stands at 5-9 and at 0-3 in the Centennial Conference. We wish them luck as they head to face York College this Wednesday, September 27 at 7 p.m.
