Men’s Lacrosse Tops Eastern

 

The No. 9-ranked Dickinson men’s lacrosse team earned an impressive 11-5 victory over Eastern University on Saturday, March 31.

The Eagles got on the board first but Jack O’Connell ’19, Max Menckes ’20, Tyler Strods ’18 and Matt Donnelly ’21 each scored a goal for the Red Devils to put them on top, 4-1 at the end of the first quarter.

Joel Mayo ’19 and Brodie Philips ’19 both scored goals for Dickinson in the second quarter, while Jake Billera scored for the Eagles to bring the score to 6-2 at halftime.

Eastern scored the only goal of the third quarter on a man-up opportunity to cut the Red Devils’ lead  to three heading into the final period of regulation.

Dickinson opened the fouth quarter by scoring three consecutive goals in 46 seconds, as Connor Ringwalt ’21 took advantage of a man-up opportunity and Nick Goles ’20 scored two goals within seconds of each other. Mayo and Donnelly followed up with a score each to bring the Red Devils’ consecutive goal count to five.

Eastern retaliated with two goals in the final two minutes but it was not enough to overcome the deficit and Dickinson came away with the win.

Philips led the Red Devils’ offense with one goal and two assists while Donnelly and Mayo each tallied two goals of their own. Ryan Campbell ’19 won 15 of 17 face-offs and picked up eight ground balls.

Nate Usich ’19 controlled seven ground balls and caused two turnovers on the defensive side while Jack Doran ’19 scooped up three GBs.

Cole Pellicano ’20 was up to the challenge in goal, making 13 saves on the afternoon.

The Red Devils’ overall record advances to 8-2 on the season as they travel to Haverford College for a 3 p.m. game on Saturday,  April 7.
