With the NBA playoffs underway, each team begins its pursuit of a championship. While it is an accomplishment to have made it this far, no one will be congratulating you for losing in the first round. On Saturday April 14, four teams were matched up to begin the postseason. The New Orleans Pelicans were able to outlast the Portland Trail Blazers by a score of 97-95. In the Eastern Conference, the Toronto Raptors bested the Washington Wizards 114-106. The two games to watch on Day 1 of the playoffs were the Golden State Warriors defeating the San Antonio Spurs 113-92 and the Philadelphia 76ers beating the Miami Heat 130-103.

On Sunday the action continued when the Celtics and Rockets won close games against the Bucks and Timberwolves, respectively. The Thunder were able to win Game 1 at home, defeating the Jazz 116-108. The biggest surprise of the weekend came when the Indiana Pacers defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers by a large margin of 98-80. This defeat snaps LeBron James’ streak of 21 straight first-round playoff victories, and marks the first time in his career that he has lost game 1 of a first-round playoff series. He was 12-0 previously.

While it is still early-on in the postseason, fans are starting to anticipate the possible Western Conference Finals matchup between the Houston Rockets and Golden State Warriors. Also, momentum for the 76ers run in the east has only gotten stronger due to Cleveland’s embarrassing performance on Sunday, April 15.

It will be exciting to see which teams make it out of the first round and how the action will continue into the second.
