Women’s Soccer Start Their Season Strong

While the majority of Dickinsonian’s have been on campus for roughly two or three weeks, the women’s soccer team has been on campus, training, for more than twice that time. Already six games into their season with four wins, one tie and one loss the women’s soccer team is showing their strength well before the start of the Centennial Conference. They opened their season with success, winning seven–one against the University of Pittsburg-Bradford, Friday, Aug. 31. Dickinson scored six of the seven points in the first half, demonstrating  that preseason had paid off by building an incredibly strong and unified team. Among those who scored were Charlotte Glancey ’22 and Ally Diez ’21, making these their first goals for the season.

The team then went on to win their next match up in a four–zero shutout against Penn State Harrisburg, Saturday, Sept. 1. Not only did the offense shine in this game, but goalkeeper Mary Katherine Bronsnan ’19 also played an impressive game with three saves to maintain the shut-out.

The Red Devils encountered their first loss of the season against Christopher Newport University with a final score of 3-1 in their first home game, Wednesday, Sept. 5.

Christopher Newport’s women’s soccer is ranked 11 in the NCAA Division III making them a particularly challenging opponent.  This loss was no setback for the Devils as they came back with a 3-0 win against York College, Saturday, Sept. 8. The first goal of the game was scored by Ashleigh Violette ’22 with her first collegiate goal. A highlight of the game was an early, one-on-one penalty kick save by Bronsnan. The team played a great game keeping the ball on the offensive side and showcasing the strength of their defense. The team maintained this strength in their next games against Alvernia on Sunday, Sept. 9 with a 1-0 win. The success went even further as the Red Devils took on Penn State Berks, Wednesday Sept. 12 finishing with a 0-0 double overtime. The two teams were evenly matched, battling for the ball around the mid-field line for much of the game. The team continued their double overtime streak with a 1-1 tie against Swarthmore, Saturday, Sept. 15. Only a few weeks into the season the Red Devils have shown their talent and their voracity, and we hope to watch them continue to do so throughout the season.  We wish the team luck as they hope to continue their success versus Muhlenburg, Saturday, Sept. 22.
