Men and Women’s Swimming Host Second Annual Alumni Meet

With one week under their belts into the 2019-2020 season, the men and women of the Dickinson College swim team are excited for what is to come. With many new first years on the team, everyone is ready to get the season started.

To break up the multitude of practices that the men and women have undergone, Saturday, Sept. 28, there was an Alumni swim meet that was hosted at the pool. This was a part of homecoming weekend and brought back many alumni as well as many onlookers in the stands who were excited to see the camaraderie and excitement that was taking place on the pool deck from alumi, current swimmers, and coaches alike. Parents and friends were largely in attendance

There was a total of seven events swam ranging from short distances like the 25 freestyle, to longer ones such as the 100 Individual Medley. It brought together the Dickinson Swimming community, young and old, to the one place they know so well, the Kline Center Pool. The meet was officiated by Coach Richards and the timing and time keeping was done by the current members of the team.

James Cummings ’20 commented in speaking about the meet, “It was great seeing old and new alumni coming back to Dickinson to swim again in the pool we all know and love. It goes to show what a great program and family that Dickinson Swimming is and how much it means to all of us.”

This was agreed upon by Tyler Catania ’21, “The alumni meet is always a great opportunity for the current swimmers to catch up with the alumni and give them the opportunity to network with the alumni.

The cheer done at the end, that has been the same across many seasons, brought together coaching staff, current swimmers, and all the alumni into one huddle and one chant to end the meet.

The meet was quick but a great event that led to celebration and camaraderie to follow. This meet brought excitement to race to the current swimmers where they look ahead to the near future when they will have their first meet of the season at Ursinus College Saturday, Oct. 26, where everyone will be ready to showcase their talent and ability that will be carried through the season to championships from their strong training.
