Up-and-coming folk-pop artist Noah Kahan’s popular album “Stick Season” has become “Stick Season: The Trilogy.” The first album released in 2022, followed by the “We’ll All Be Here Forever” sequel in 2023 and finally, the upcoming conclusion, “Forever,” on February 9.
Kahan’s first “Stick Season” re-release alongside the “If We Were Vampires” collaboration with Wesley Schulz of The Lumineers launched his hit-artist era in May 2023. He then re-released “Dial Drunk” with Post Malone, “Call Your Mom” with Lizzy McAlpine, “She Calls Me Back” with Kasey Musgraves, “Northern Attitude” with Hozier, “Everything, Everywhere” with Gracie Abrams and “Homesick” with Sam Fender.
With the announcement of his conclusion album, came two new and final “Stick Season” collaborations: “Paul Revere” with Gregory Alan Isakov and “You’re Gonna Go Far” with Brandi Carlile.
Though still awaiting the “Stick Season” finale, in the past few months Kahan has released incredible collaboration songs, some we knew we needed like his collaboration with Hozier, and some we didn’t know we needed, like the Kahan-Post Malone crossover. Something about Hozier’s deep Irish folk voice and Noah Kahan’s New-Englander storylines combined to be a contender for my song of the year.
This rendition of “Northern Attitude” was art. Even Kahan’s collaboration with Post Malone gave us a version of “Dial Drunk” which was even better than the original. There is no doubt in my mind that this new album and crossover songs will follow suit with its predecessors, adding a new edge and flare to Kahan’s already brilliant work.
Out of all of Kahan’s new releases, I am most excited for “Paul Revere” with Gregory Ivan Isakov, as Isakov’s popular songs “Big Black Car,” “Amsterdam” and “Second Chances” are among some of my favorites. His slow, soft and melancholy tone paired with the faster-paced, folk tones of Noah Kahan’s “Paul Revere”will bring something new to Isakov’s repertoire that his fans will enjoy.
Out of all of Kahan’s “Stick Season” releases, his “You’re Gonna Go Far” crossover with old-timer Brandi Carlile shocked me the most. With all of the newer artists that Noah seems to gravitate towards when re-releasing his work, seeing an award winning folk-rock singer was new, but very exciting. Carlile and Kahan’s Americana-style writing and voices will no doubt create something incredible. What a way to wrap up this “Stick Season” era than with a titular song, with the classic folk inspiration herself, Brandi Carlile!
