Recently I’ve started interviewing for some exciting job opportunities. My social circle is becoming diverse and well-rounded, and I am romantically fulfilled. I’m exercising a lot and focusing on my health and diet, which has been great mentally and physically. I’m working to involve myself in the Dickinson community, both academically and extracurricurally. I’m happy with my life. Unfortunately, I no longer qualify to be Playboi Carti fan. Sorry Mr. Carter, your music serves me no purpose anymore! However, in moments of weakness, I do check the fit pics on Carti’s Instagram stories. He looks so cool!
On his most recent, elusive Instagram post, Carti posted a song from Atlanta rapper Blo called “Sexy RRed.” I’ve had this song on repeat all week. The production is svelte and luxurious, and I catch different details on each new listen. The synthetic bells combined with airy risers sounds like a bubble-blowing swamp monster surfacing and locking eyes with its victim. Blo is clearly a Lil Baby disciple in terms of delivery and flow. However, unlike contemporary Lil Baby, the delivery on “Sexy RRed” is unpredictable, as Blo’s gravelly voice slithers with entertaining inflections. Lyrics about Blo’s life of drugs, crime and lust are delivered in a nonchalant fashion, but you nearly hear his voice break in pain as he tells a girl “I’m in prison, you ain’t caught that?” “Sexy RRed” comes and goes with subtle yet memorable energy. Nothing more, nothing less, Blo is the perfect example of doing the right amount.
