Ten women in the Class of 2014 have something new to wear on campus next year.
Wheel and Chain, Dickinson’s senior women’s honorary society, tapped its newest members on Friday, April 26, on the steps of Old West. As explained during the ceremony, the women, also known as Blue Hats, were chosen based on their contributions to the Dickinson community.
The new Blue Hats are Sarah Koch, Kaitlyn Gregory, Jasmine Britton, Dianaliz Cruz Rodriguez, Shanice Grant, Lauren Jeschke, Emily Rincavage, Tania Marinos, Annika Ko and Catie Duckworth.
“I have done a lot in my time at Dickinson, but I have never been more honored to be a part of something,” reflected Duckworth. “I am ecstatic to join such a historic organization and I have nothing but good things to look forward to for next year.”
Rincavage echoed, “Listening to the accomplishments of my fellow new blue hats, it was an honor to be named among them.”
According to Wheel and Chain’s website, the society was founded in 1924. New members are chosen in the spring of their junior year at Dickinson by senior members.
The senior Blue Hats were pleased with this year’s tapping.
“After planning the ceremony for so long, I couldn’t believe that it was finally over,” said Christina Socci ’13, an outgoing Blue Hat. “Looking back on it now, I’m glad that so many people came out to support the new girls.”
The Wheel and Chain Leadership Award, a monetary prize granted to a rising junior, was also awarded during the ceremony. This year’s recipient is Colleen McCabe ’14.
Honorary members from the faculty and staff were also named during the ceremony. They are Chair of the Board of Trustees Jennifer Ward Reynolds ’77, Student Senate Bookkeeper Mary Silva and Assistant Director of Campus Life Erica Gordon.
