On Saturday, Apr. 17 the #2-ranked Dickinson Men’s Lacrosse team honored their standout seniors and sent them out with another win. The Red Devils routed the Swarthmore Garnet 19-9, giving almost every single player on roster a chance to get on the field.
Brian Cannon ’14 got things rolling in the first quarter, finding the net four times and helping the Devils out to a 7-0 lead after one. His most notable goal of that quarter came at the end of an impressive sequence where Brandon Palladino ’13 picked up a loose ball, sprinted down the field, found Cannon sneaking up behind the defense, hit him with a sharp pass and Cannon put it in.
The mid-field unit of Tyler White ’15, Bret Parker ’15 and Christian Beitel ’13 continued their hot streak, combining for four goals on the day to extend the Devils lead to 9-0 before Swarthmore finally answered with a goal of their own to make it a 9-1 game. However, the Red Devils responded with two more tallies to make it 11-1 before Swarthmore put two more goals on the board to make it an 11-3 game at the break.
The next half started a little differently, with Swarthmore rallying off three straight goals to make it an 11-5 game. The Dickinson offense tallied back-to-back goals to stretch the lead to 13-5 compliments of Beitel and Palladino. By the start of the fourth quarter, the main starters for Dickinson had taken a spot on the sideline and left to a standing ovation. Right before senior Marek Laco ’13 took his leave he found the back of the net, which stretched the Devils lead to 15-8. From there on out the younger players took control and gave the fans a glimpse of what they will see next year. Reid Barger ’14 found the back of the net and received a standing ovation from the fans and was effectively tackled by his teammates in celebration. Cannon finished the game with four goals while Brian Gleason ’14 finished with three. Carter Moore ’14 dominated the faceoffs, going 17-19 on the day while picking up 11 ground balls.
The win moved the Red Devils to 13-0 on the year and 6-0 in the conference. Following a game at Muhlenberg, the Red Devils return home to face Franklin and Marshall on Saturday, Apr. 27, at 3 p.m. The Diplomats sit only one game back, meaning the game on Saturday will determine the top seed in the Centennial Conference tournament.
