The cross country teams began their season with a strong showing. Both the men and women’s teams won the Misericordia University Invitational, a meet at which seven schools competed in. The race consisted of a 5K run.
The men won in dominating fashion, placing the top 10 runners in the meet. Ryan Steinbock ’14 won the individual title with a time of 16:05 and was followed closesly by Nick Stender ’15 at 16:11. The top six all finished in under 16:30. They were, in order from second through sixth: Henry Mynatt ’14, Alex Strenta ’14, Greg Clark ’14, and Mark Weinhoffer ’15. In seventh through tenth place, the Red Devils placed: Joey Steadman ‘17, Robert Sansevere ‘14, Omar Hyjek ‘14, and Peter Sisson ‘14.
The women won the meet by placing six runners in the top ten. Marywood had three and Misericordia had one. After the winning individual runner from Marywood, Dickinson’s Emily Miller ‘14 placed second and was followed by five consecutive Red Devil teammates, all of whom finished within an eleven second span. Miller finished the 5000 meters in 15:47.47. Her third through seventh place finishing teammates were, in order: Polly Terzian ‘17, Mackenzie Shelgren ‘16, Claire Brawdy ‘16, Sarah Rutkowski ‘15, and Rebecca Race ‘16.
The cross country teams return to action at the Little Three Championships on Friday, Sept. 6. This annual meet between Dickinson, Gettysburg, and Franklin & Marshall will be hosted by F&M this year and is scheduled to start at 5:00 p.m. The Dickinson men have won 16 straight Little Three Championships, and the Dickinson women have captured 19 straight Little Three Championships. The squads look to make it 17 and 20, respectively.
