Dickinson women’s soccer is one win away from making the conference playoffs after they turned away two conference competitors over their last week. The Red Devils travelled to Ursinus on Wednesday, Oct. 23, winning 3-0. They continued the winning streak at home for a 2-1 Senior Day victory against the Franklin & Marshall, bringing their in-conference record to 4-3-2. They are currently in fifth place and will play fourth place McDaniel on Saturday, Nov. 2. The top five seeds make the conference tournament.

On the cusp of tournament play, Dickinson needed to pull out wins against their final three centennial conference match-ups to secure a top-5 seed. Coming off of a loss where they struggled to score against the undefeated Blue Jays of Johns Hopkins, the Red Devils managed to net three against Ursinus. Dickinson started off slow, but Erin Stuphen ’16 scored off a nice assist from classmate Jenna Lamb ’16 just before the half. Another sophomore, Nicole Fronsdahl ’16, netted an additional goal just over a minute later to bring the Red Devils to a 2-0 lead heading into halftime. The second half was spent mostly in the midfield as both teams battled it out in the rain. Shots on goal were split fairly evenly between the two teams, both of them forcing 6 corner kicks throughout the match. Charlotte Armour ’15 held down the back field to keep the 3-0 lead to finish out the game.

Against F&M, The Diplomats started the game off with an early goal to edge ahead in the sixth minute of play. Savoie answered in the twentieth minute to tie the game off an assist from Michaela Donohue ’15. Lamb scored in the middle of the second half, her ninth of the season, to put the Red Devils by the deciding score of 2-1. “Out of my four years as a member of DWS I have never seen more heart and perseverance from a team than I did on Saturday,” said Savoie. “Each player gave her all to help us come back from being down a goal, ultimately to take the win.” Fierce play continued on both sides for the remaining 20 minutes but neither team managed to capitalize on their opportunities. Despite the close score, Dickinson outshot their rivals 18-5 and kept the Diplomats to only one shot in the second half.

Dickinson honored their four graduating seniors at their last home game this past Saturday, and gave them a victory against school rival F&M. Seniors Sam Friday ’14, Chelsea Johnson ’14, Roz Savoie ’14, and Olivia Licata ’14 have gone to two conference tournaments in their time at Dickinson and look to end their season this year with another trip to the championship playoffs. “It could not have been a better senior day,” said Savoie. “Not only did we win a very challenging game, but it further helped us in our efforts to secure a spot in the conference playoffs.”
