XC Ready for CC Championships
The men’s and women’s cross country teams capped off their regular season in style, both winning the Gettysburg Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 19. The men narrowly defeated Lock Haven, a division II team, 86-87. A total of 26 teams competed in the men’s meet and 27 competed in the women’s meet. The women crushed the competition, scoring 32 points with no other team finishing below 125.
In the men’s 8K race, Omar Hyjek ’14 finished fourth overall with a time of 26:12. James Corti ‘17 finished in twentieth place with a time of 26:41. Christian Brady ’16 and Alexander Predhome ’16 finished less than two seconds apart from each other, 26:46.1 and 26:47.8, earning themselves twenty-second and twenty-third place in the race.
In the women’s 6K race, Sara Patterson ’14 came in second place with a time of 22:42. Because of her performance, Patterson was named Centennial Conference Cross Country Runner of the Week. Mary Thorne ’15 finished second for the Red Devils and fourth overall with a time of 22:55. Maeva Riley ’14 and Claire Brawdy ’16 came in together earning seventh and eighth place. The next duo was Mary Nolte ’14 and Emily Miller ’14, finishing seconds apart from one another and claiming eleventh and twelfth place in the race.
The Centennial Conference Championships will be held at McDaniel College on Saturday, Nov. 2. Last season, the men finished second, losing to Haverford, and the women finished third behind Haverford and the champions, Johns Hopkins. The men hope to win the conference title this year as they are currently the highest ranked Centennial team at #8 in the country (USTFCCCA poll). The women are ranked #19, but Johns Hopkins is ranked #1.
