Dickinson Women’s soccer suffered a season ending lost against McDaniel on Saturday, Nov. 2. Dickinson needed to win this game to secure the fifth seed in the conference tournament, but with the loss, the Red Devils finish in sixth. Heading into the game, McDaniel had been ranked just one behind the Red Devils at sixth place in conference standings.

The Red Devils had a week long hiatus after beating conference rival F & M at home. The team had everything pulling in their favor; it was senior day, there was a large at-home crowd, and they needed two more wins to secure them a spot in the conference tournament. They cleaned up a slow start with a 2-1 victory by the final buzzer and took the next seven days to prepare for McDaniel.

Moving back-and-forth in the rankings all season, McDaniel was a fairly even match that would make for a competitive game. It certainly proved to be true, with both ends of the field seeing lots of action as both teams fought hard to get ahead. It was not until the thirtieth minute that the Green Terror managed to place a ball into the back of the net off a nice assist from one of the top attackers in the conference, Julia Pope. McDaniel held a one goal advantage through the half.

Senior attacker Roz Savoie ’14 put the Red Devils on the board with an unassisted goal in the beginning of the second half. “Out of my four years as a member of DWS,” Savoie shared with us, “I have never seen more heart and perseverance from a team.” Dickinson never gave up throughout the match, outshooting McDaniel 17-9. There were several close calls on both sides, with several balls going just wide of the net for Dickinson. Charlotte Armour ’15 did tremendous in net for the Red Devils, making two saves and directing the backfield.

“In these last few games of my soccer career, I could not be prouder to be on a team with these 27 girls who have been amazing teammates, but more importantly my best friends” Savoie added. The team finishes 4-4-2 in conference play, just out of playoff contention.
