Swimming Splits Opening Meets
Both the men’s and women’s swimming teams have started off their season 1-1. Both teams lost to Ursinus on Saturday, Oct. 26. The men lost 105-100, while the women lost by a wider margin, 122-83. The Red Devils returned to the pool on Saturday, Nov. 2 when they went travelled to the University of Scranton and cruised past the Royals. The men came away with a 129.5-75.5 win and the women won 122-83.
Senior leadership has dominated thus far for the men as Brandon Gauthier ’14 and Jason Adams ’14 have been the Red Devils’ top swimmers. Against Ursinus, Gauthier won two individual events and Adams won one. Gauthier touched first in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:03.70 and the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:17.95. Adams won the 50 freestyle, touching in 21.68. The two of them also swam on the winning medley relay, combining with Sam Eaton ’17 and Cris Miranda ’14. Against Scranton, Adams won the 50 freestyle again and also set the pool record in the 100 butterfly, touching in 21.47.
For the women, Caroline Brennan ’15 captured a team-high two first-places against Ursinus and grabbed three more at Scranton. Against Ursinus, Brennan won the 1000 freestyle in 11:07.90 and the 200 butterfly in 2:15.86. Defending McAndrews Award Winner Caitlin Klockner ’17 captured three wins agains Scranton, winning the individual medley and contributing to two relay wins as well.
The women will return to the pool on Thursday, Nov. 7 when they take on Bryn Mawr and Juniata in the Kline Center. The men’s next meet is on Saturday, Nov. 9 when they travel to York College to take on York and St. Mary’s in a tri-meet.
