XC Nearly Knocks Off Blue Jays
The men’s and women’s cross-country teams traveled to McDaniel College and competed in the Centennial Conference Championship on Saturday, Nov. 2. The men’s team earned second place for the fourth year in a row, finishing only five points behind champion Johns Hopkins University. The five point differential was the closest in Centennial Conference Championship history.
The women finished third behind Haverford and Johns Hopkins, tallying 68 points to Haverford’s 55 and Hopkins’ 17.
The men had six different athletes receive All-Conference honors this weekend. Ryan Steinbock ’14 finished in 25:58 and came in second place overall. Henry Mynatt ’14 finished with a time of 26:02 and earned fourth place. Ryan Steinbock and Henry Mynatt were both named First Team All-Conference. Omar Hyneck ’14 came in eighth place, Joey Steadman ’17 received twelfth place, Mark Weinhoffer ’15 earned thirteenth place, and Greg Clark ’14 finished fourteenth. All four were named Second Team All-Conference.
Sara Patterson ’14 ran the event in 23:28 to end up in tenth place. Patterson was the highest finished Red Devil and was named Second Team All-Conference. Also receiving second team honors was Emily Miller ’14, who came in twelfth place with a time of 23:34. Sarah Rutkowski ’15 finished in 23:48 and received fourteenth place. Molly Thorne ’15 finished just behind Rutkowski with a time of 23:54.
Top qualifiers for the men’s and women’s cross-country teams will travel to Lehigh University on Saturday, Nov. 16 to compete in the NCAA Mideast Regional. The runners who qualify to move on will compete in the NCAA Championships the following weekend.
