Swimming Teams Dominate Quad-Meet
Both the men’s and the women’s swimming teams swept a tri-meet at York College on Saturday, Nov. 16. The men are now 4-1, with the women sitting at 5-1. Neither team has begun their conference schedule.
The Red Devils competed against York, St. Mary’s College of Maryland and St. Vincent, winning 135-69-, 145-53 and 132-61 on the men’s side, respectively. The women defeated York, St. Mary’s and St. Vincent 141-61, 115-89, and 122-82. The women’s team also faced Bryn Mawr on Thursday, Nov. 7, defeating the owls 105-72.
Jason Adams ‘14 starred for the Red Devils, winning three events and setting three pool records. He recorded a win in the 400 yard medley relay in which he swam his leg in a pool record 51.57, then proceeded to win the 50 and 100 freestyles in 21.45 and 48.20, respectively.
Alex Bennett ’17 and Brandon Gauthier ’14 also added individual wins for the Red Devil men. Bennett won the 500 and 1000 freestyles in 10:26.27 and 4:56.89, respectively. Gauthier won the 200 individual medley in 2:03.48.
Carson Gannon ’14 led the women as she won three races. Gannon was victorious in the 200 and 500 freestyles (2:01.43 and 5:23.04). Along with Alex Melchiorre ’15, Tanita Leary ‘17, and Caitlin Klockner ’16, Gannon recorded a third win in the 400 freestyle relay that set a pool record with a time of 3:43.46.
Both teams will host Bloomsburg on Saturday, Nov. 16 in a 1 p.m. Kline Center start. Bloomsburg is the lone Division II school on Dickinson’s schedule. Last season, Bloomsburg defeated the Red Devil men 135-115 and defeated the Red Devil women 153-91. Bloomsburg’s men have started this season 1-2, while their women have yet to win a meet and are 0-3.
