Field Hockey Senior Class Ends Career Making History

The Dickinson Women’s Field Hockey team wrapped up their season with a tough loss against Franklin and Marshall in the Centennial Conference semi-finals this past Saturday, Nov. 7 after defeating Muhlenberg 1-0 in OT for the first Centennial Conference Playoff  victory in program history.

The team’s season resulted with a winning record of 12-7.  They were contesters in the Centennial Conference playoffs for the second time in three years.  The team’s last appearance in the conference playoffs was in 2014 with another tough loss against Ursinus.

Chloe Morakis ’17 talks about impact that the senior class had on the team.  “I hope the seniors are proud of how far they’ve brought us,” says Morakis, “We are certainly proud of them for giving us everything they had for the past four years.”

Emilie Arrix ’18 reflects on the team. “The team as a whole was unlike any team I have ever been on. We were so close and losing the seniors is going to be so hard,” says Arrix.

“Every single one of the seniors brought something different to the table,” says Arrix.

Coach Caitlin Williams mentions the effect that the senior class has had on the team.  “These seniors will forever be very special to me,” says Williams. “It has been a fantastic four years watching them not only believe in what this team could achieve but helping to recruit and teach the younger members of the team… what we needed to uphold to be successful,” says Williams.

Fellow senior, Emily Fuss ’16 reflects, “Our program has come so far the last four years. When we were first-years, we struggled to win conference games. However, this year we won our first game in the centennial conference playoffs to send us to semi-finals.”

The best thing about this team is that one player did not define them and that there was great team balance on the field, says Williams.

The season had a ton of highlights, says Taylor Meehan ’16. “My favorite was when Emilie Arrix scored with 0.2 seconds left to win the game against Gettysburg. It was so exciting,” says Meehan.

The team also faced some struggles throughout the season.  “We struggled offensively with getting shots off and on cage and having people on the posts to tip it in,” says Morakis.

As far as next season goes, the team is looking to come out with the same fire, heart and passion that they left on the field this past season, says Arrix.

The team will struggle to fill the gaps of the seniors in terms of skill, ability and personality, says Morakis.

The seniors are excited to see the success of the team continue in the upcoming years, agree Fuss and Meehan.

It has been a privilege to play for Dickinson College Field Hockey and be surrounded by such talented athletes and coaches, says Fuss.

“Without their (seniors) commitment to redefining what it means to be a part of this team the program wouldn’t be where it is now,” says Williams.
