The Dickinson football team made the most of their Senior Day on Saturday, Nov. 11, routing Ursinus 40-17 in their final game of the 2017 season at Biddle Field.

The Red Devils had a great start and received great play from all over the field. Robert Geiss ’21 led the Red Devils 79 yards down the field on their opening drive, capping it off with a 10-yard touchdown pass to classmate Christopher Longo ’21. Dickinson’s PAT attempt failed and the Bears struck back with a 62-yard run by Samuel Raglund on the Bears’ first offensive play of the game.

Philip Butler ’21 and Jeremy Walsh ’20 led the Red Devils back down the field on their next drive before Butler ran into the endzone for a 3-yard touchdown to give Dickinson a 13-7 lead with 2:22 left in the first quarter.

Ursinus’ next drive ended abruptly as Ethan Warrick ’19 intercepted a pass to set up a Dickinson drive on their own 38-yard line.

Butler ran the ball into the red zone before Geiss hit Longo again for a 19-yard touchdown with 8:04 left before halftime. The Bears answered with a touchdown and a 24-yard field goal before the end of the half to cut the Red Devils’ lead to 20-17 at halftime.

Ursinus opened up the second half with a punt on their first drive before Dickinson marched down the field again and scored on a four-yard run by Walsh to make the score 27-17.

The Red Devils went on a long drive down the field, again led by Butler and Walsh, to run the final 8:45 off the clock in the third quarter. Walsh capped it off with a seven-yard touchdown run. Taj DeFrance ’21 came down with an interception on the Bears’ next drive, leading to another touchdown by Geiss, who ran for a four-yard touchdown to cap off a 9-play, 40-yard drive by the Red Devils.

Matt Butz ’19 grabbed another interception for Dickinson’s defense to close out the game for the final score of 40-17.

James Turner ’20 led the Red Devil defense with 12 tackles (eight solo), two tackles-for-loss and one sack. Warrick tallied seven tackles and 1.5 tackles-for-loss, along with his interception. Tyler Heisey ’18 tacked on five tackles, including one that went for a loss.

Walsh rushed for 131 yards on 37 carries and had two catches for another 29 yards to go along with two rushing touchdowns while Butler went 47 yards on 13 carries along with a touchdown.

Geiss led the offence, completing 22-of-28 passes for 181 yards in the air while rushing for 30 yards on the ground. Two of his touchdowns were to Longo, who finished with 11 catches for 96 yards.

As a team, the Red Devils put up a total of 400 yards on offense, 219 rushing and 181 passing. The defense held Ursinus to 0 points 14 yards of total offense in the second half, including negative four yards rushing in the fourth quarter. Ursinus falls to 6-4 overall and 5-4 in the Centennial Conference while Red Devils finish 3-7 overall and 3-6 in the Conference.
