Track Competes at Bison Open

The Red Devil men’s and women’s track and field squads spent two days at the Bucknell Bison Open and came home with impressive performances across the board on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 26 and 27.

Sofia Canning ’18 finished the 5000 meters in a time of 14:27.04, taking third in the meet, while Emma Johnson ’21 finished 15th in 19:08.91. In the 200 meters Natalie Suess ’20 crossed the finish line in 27.47 to take 31st overall. Suess competed on both days, returning on Saturday to run the third leg of the 4×400 relay, joined by Allyson Yanega ’21, Sarah Yanega ’20, and Hannah Gore ’18.  The team finished with a time of 4:14.27 and took seventh.  Suess was proud of her team, saying, “We warmed up together and had positive attitudes, so we each ran a great split and ended up breaking our PR for the season.” Yanega also placed first in the 800 meter run, crossing the line in 2:24.56.

On the men’s side, Oden Bules ’21 began the day for the Red Devils by placing 18th in the 5000 meters with a time of 16:06.24.  For the pole vault, Kacper Rzempoluch ’21 took fourth, clearing 4.35 meters for a collegiate personal record. Rzempoluch said of his performance, “Coming into the meet, I knew that I would be facing a heavy field, but I knew if I kept my head straight then I would end up having the type of meet that I’ve been chasing.” Garrett Randall ’21 was the top Dickinson sprinter in the 200 meters, finishing in 24.11.  On Saturday, Eric Herrmann ’19 placed third in the mile run with a time of 4:23.53.  In the 3000 meters, Bryce Descavish ’20, took second with a time of 8:37.95, followed across the finish by Duncan Hopkins ’19 in 8:44.87, placing seventh.  Matthew Persick ’18 took 20th in the race, finishing in 9:24.70.

The Red Devils return home this week for the Du Charme Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 2 in the Kline Center, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
