Women’s Basketball Suffers Conference Losses

It was a tough week for Dickinson women’s basketball. The Red Devils lost both of their games, making this an uphill climb for the final playoff spot. On Wednesday, Feb. 6, the Red Devils fought hard against their rival the Gettysburg Bullets (19-2) but fell by 14 points, making for a 69-55 win for Gettysburg, and on Saturday, Feb. 10, the Red Devils lost 58-48 to Ursinus (13-11).

The Red Devils came out hot against Gettysburg. Lauren McBride ’20 hit a solid jumper to give the Red Devils a 11-10 lead until Gettysburg ended the first quarter on a 7-2 run, putting them in the lead 17-13 heading into the second quarter.

Gettysburg came out firing in the second, pushing the lead to 11 points until Emily Padalino ’20 nailed a huge three-pointer to cut the lead to single digits. Gettysburg was not flustered by the Red Devils push and went into the locker room at halftime leading, 37-23

Gettysburg made another run in the third quarter giving them a comfortable 19-point lead but the Red Devils didn’t panic and went on a short run, making the score 49-37.

Halle Maeda ’21 hit a jumper to narrow the score to just eight points but that’s as close as it would get for the Red Devils.

McBride led the team in points, tallying 16 on the night. She was also hot from the field, going 8 for 11 in shots. Kassidy Lesher ’18, finished with a double-double, ending the night with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

It was Senior Day and Red Out day as the Red Devils battled the Ursinus Bears. The Red Devils came out to a slow start and were unable to fend off the Bears from Ursinus.

The Bears trampled the Red Devils in the first quarter, leading 21-6. The Red Devils responded with fury and outscored Ursinus 19-10 in the second quarter to make the halftime score 31-25 in favor of the Bears.

Hannah Heiring ’20 hit a huge three-pointer and had a nice layup to give the Red Devils some life. Padalino and Becker ’20, both hit two clutch three-pointers to give the Red Devils hope going into halftime.

Heading into the third quarter, the Red Devils started to find a rhythm when Becker and Lesher found each other for back-to-back field-goals cutting the lead to three points.

Ursinus never faultered  though, as they would take a strong six-point lead heading into the fourth.

The Red Devils fought hard on Senior Day but fell by 10 points at the final buzzer. Lesher recorded her 16th double-double on the year, finishing the day with 12 points and 15 rebounds.

The Red Devils will travel to Washington College on Saturday, Feb. 17 for the final game of the regular season. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
