Women’s Lacrosse Tops Muhlenburg

The Dickinson College women’s lacrosse team prepared for an exciting game against Muhlenberg College last Saturday, April 21, at home.  The women wanted to bounce back from a difficult 13-5 loss they faced earlier in the week against Gettysburg College at Biddle Field.

The women started the game proving their desire to win. They were up 2-0 in the first few minutes following the opening faceoff. Keeping up the momentum from the beginning of the game, the Red Devils pushed to the half with a 7-6 lead.

Throughout the course of the game there was never more than a 3-goal lead for either squad. Each goal made was quickly answered by the other team.

Once the first half was over the Red Devils were encouraged to finish the game the same way they had started it. The Mules took an early lead in the half but not long before Dickinson took the game to a 9-9 tie.

Both teams were prepared to go into overtime with just seconds left in the game but were not done fighting to the finish. Erika Bloes ’21 made the final goal with two seconds left in the game to give the Red Devils an incredible last-second 10-9 victory over Muhlenberg.

Alongside Bloes, Sam Marmo ’19, Eleanor Kaestner ’19, and Anne Dunster ’19 each put two goals on the board for the Dickinson, helping to keep them in the game and eventually earn the victory. Goalkeeper Avery Priest ’21 made 9 saves and forced 2 turnovers to contribute to the victory on the defensive side.

The win for the Red Devil’s brought them to an even 7-7 record overall and a 4-3 conference record. We wish the women luck as they look ahead to hosting Ursinus on Saturday, April 28 at 3 p.m. for their Senior Day and final home game of the season.
