Women’s Soccer Tops Muhlenberg

Our women’s soccer team added another win to their record Saturday, Sept. 22, against Muhlenberg. The women are currently ranked seventh in the United Soccer Coaches poll. Despite less than favorable conditions our women fought hard and kept the ball on the offensive half of the field for the majority of the game. It was well into the first half when Mary Katherine Brosnan ’19 touched the ball for the first time. The defense also utilized their skills at this time and easily deflected a few breakaways by Muhlenberg. The first half finished with a 0-0 score.

As the speed of the game continued to increase, the level of play did as well. As Dickinson maneuvered towards the goal their footwork and passing reached a level of play far above that of Muhlenberg. One-on-one battles for the ball became more frequent and fouls were called as tensions rose. Dickinson scored the only goal of the game with a penalty kick, much to the dismay of the opposing coach. As the game reached the final four minutes Dickinson was determined to hold the score if not add to it. After several breakaways by the Red Devils, Muhlenberg launched the ball across the field in a last effort to score. However, they were no match for our stellar defense and the game ended with the ball in Dickinson’s possession for the 1-0 win.
