Football has High Scoring Victory Against Juniata
The Dickinson College football team had a strong showing for a 51-21 win over visting Juniata.
Last Saturday, Nov. 1, the Dickinson College Red Devils hosted the Juniata College Eagles at Biddle Field. The Red Devils were able to cruise to a 51-21 victory off the backs of strong offensive and special team performances. The stands had many fans ready to watch the game and cheer for their Red Devils as they took the field.
Quarterback Tim Graham ’21 was named the Centennial Conference offensive player of the week and punter/defensive back Jordan Hollander ’20 was named the Centennial Conference special teams’ player of the week. These two performances led the team to rack up 51-points against a defense that was unable to contain them. Graham finished the day with 283 yards passing while scoring five touchdowns and completing 20 out of 27 of his passes.
The game began with a Juniata possession at the 15-yard line. The Eagles were able to advance to the 40-yard line, but a rush for a loss of 20 yards led to a turnover on downs that set up Dickinson’s offense at the opposing 20-yard line where they set to continue.
Two plays later Graham connected to wide receiver Christopher Longo ’21 for the touchdown score on a 19-yard pass.
The Red Devils scored again to begin the second quarter as the defense held the Eagles to no points in the first quarter to bring the score to 14-0. Back to back touchdowns by both sides near the end of the second quarter brought the score to 21-7. They would exchange touchdowns on back-to-back plays as seconds remained on the game clock to bring the score into halftime to 28-14. After halftime it was easy to see that the game was not as close at the score made it seem. Dickinson’s offense executed and the defense held the Eagles to just one more touchdown for a final score of 51-21.
After the win the Red Devils improved to 5-3 on the season, earning their third win in as many games. Currently the Red Devils are three games back of the undefeated Muhlenberg Mules in the Centennial Conference standings. Next Saturday, Nov. 9, the Red Devils travel to Bethlehem, Pa., to face the Moravian College Greyhounds where they will compete in one of their final games of the season. We look forward to seeing the men bring out their skills and show their strength when there is not much time left. After this upcoming Saturday, the men will only have one more in Conference game the following Saturday, Nov. 16 against the Ursinus Bears. This game is set to take place at home, and the men hope to have a strong showing for their final game of the season, and for a large portion of the team, all of the seniors, their last game on Dickinson’s field, a sad moment for many on the sidelines as well as in the bleachers.
