Since the seasonal transition from summer to fall is lingering a bit, crossing over summer styles with fall styles is becoming more common. People are confused about what they should be wearing in this complex weather. Personally, I am still in the summer mind-set so I have been wearing classic summer pieces and incorporating a layering piece such as a blazer or cardigan as my hint of fall.

I have been noticing many students also mixing their summer styles with fall pieces. A classic example of this season-blending trend, is pairing a maxi dress with a sweater. Maxi dresses are long, floor length dresses that are casual. What makes these dresses different than other long dresses is the material they are made of. Maxi dresses are usually made of cotton, which visually presents as more casual than a dress made of chiffon or silk. They are made in various colors and patterns, which make them quite versatile. Maxi dresses are classic summer pieces; however, their length makes them ideal when the temperature begins to drop. Therefore, they are perfect to wear during this transitional weather we have been having lately.

I stopped Tomi Beightol ’14 as she was on her way to class because I thought she was presenting this exact trend. She is wearing a classic, black and white striped strapless summer maxi dress. To add a fall touch to her ensemble, she paired it with a casual white sweater. She is collaborating summer trends with fall trends, which is what this time of year is all about!

While people may be eager to fully transition into fall, summer weather is still haunting us, so don’t put away your summer clothes just yet!
