Caf Review: Egg White Omelette
I walked into the Caf one day, starving after an early morning language class. In the mood for something hot, I was hoping that the Caf would be offering something more than just a continental breakfast. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good continental breakfast, but I was yearning for something special. As I strolled by a tray of croissants, bagels and whole wheat toast, I began to feel my shoulders droop. Suddenly, the sight of fresh omelettes burst into my mind.
I ran to the line and ordered an egg white omelette with spinach and cheese. When I received my omelet, I rushed back to my seat, grabbing a fork on my way. As my mouth watered and my stomach growled, I took a big bite of my omelette, and was quite satisfied. The omelette contained the perfect blend of spinach, cheese, an egg white.
There wasn’t so much spinach that I felt like I was eating a salad, but there wasn’t so little that it tasted like a bun less, meatless cheeseburger. The cheddar cheese that glistened in the omelette was melted perfectly and helped hold together the spinach and egg whites.
Unlike many omelettes I have had before, the egg whites were full of flavor and were soft but firm as I bit into them. I was very satisfied and relished in the fact that my quest had been successful. I had found a great meal that not only re-energized me the second I left the dining hall but propelled me into the rest of my day. It was my first time ever eating breakfast in the dining hall, or anywhere, since classes had started.
The omelette I enjoyed ensured that my breakfast at the Caf would not be my last, but my first in a line of many. I am consistently surprised by the quality of the food at Dickinson and I hope to have more food that tastes just as good as that omelette I had for breakfast.
