Reptiles Slither to College Campus

On Nov. 8, at a time yet to be announced, reptiles will be joining the Dickinson community for the Event Advisory Board (EAB) sponsored “Reptile Rush” in the Anita Tuvin Schlecter Auditorium (ATS). Jesse Rothacker, the founder of The Forgotten Friend Reptile Sanctuary in eastern Pennsylvania, will be coming to campus to show off some of his rescued reptiles and share his story on how he created a rescue center for reptiles.

Rothacker’s website, www.forgottenfriend.org, reads, “Our interactive shows are crawling with fun and laughter. We customize every show, but our classic show includes a 30-45 minute presentation, with the rest of the hour for questions and closer reptile encounters. We bring learning to life with fifteen live snakes, lizards, turtles, and crocs.”

People will be able to see a wide variety of common reptiles, learn about reptile preservation, and even be able to take pictures with the animals after the show. According to EAB Planner Katherine Natoli ‘16, this event is the first of its kind at Dickinson.

“The EAB has never done an event like this one in the past,” said Natoli. “I think it will attract people who love reptiles, and maybe miss their pet snake or lizard at home. I think it will also interest those in the science field. Fun fact, Rector has tons of snakes used for various experiments.”

The event is open to all who are interested and is highly recommended to biology majors or anyone taking a biology class. Further information and reminders will be on the Compass and EAB’s posters, along with a sneak preview of some scaly friends in the cafeteria on Friday, Nov. 8 during lunchtime.
