Spring Break Finds Athletes on the Field

For most Dickinson students, spring break means travelling to far-flung destinations with friends or a service trip – unless you are a varsity athlete. As students prepare to leave campus for the week long vacation, spring athletes spend their breaks training or traveling with their teams.

The women’s field hockey team will continue their yearly tradition of traveling to Florida for training.

“Spring break has always been the most exciting week. We have been going to Florida together since [my] freshman year,” said Kristiana Roth ’16, former field hockey player. “We plan to spend most of our time on the beach, by the pool, going out and having a lot of fun before we graduate!”

As the last spring break for the seniors, Roth reflected, “this year it is bittersweet to be going on spring break for the last time, we are all going to miss it.”

The women’s lacrosse team will travel to Clermont, Florida.

“It is sometimes sad to see pictures of friends at the beach relaxing,” said Mara Cassidy ’16, a member of the lacrosse team. “But spring break is such a fun time for our team because we get to spend some time away from campus in more of a casual setting.”

“This year will be a lot of fun since it is our last spring break together and these are memories that we will never forget,” said Danielle Cox ’16, a former member of the women’s lacrosse team.

The men’s lacrosse team will stay on campus for training.

“I’d like to be somewhere warm,” said lacrosse goalie Nicholas Baxter ’16, “but it is still nice that I will get to spend time with my friends and the team.” Baxter, like most of his team, will be on campus during the break, where he plans to get ahead on work, continue his job search and catch up on sleep.

Former field hockey player Taylor Meehan ’16 said, “whether the destination is a tropical island, home or even staying on campus, I think most students plan to relax, have fun, get ahead on internships and job research and take a break from schoolwork during their spring break.”

“I feel like it’s better to save the big group trip with college friends until senior year and I can’t wait for it next year,” said Hanna Norman ’17, who will adventure to Turks and Caicos over break.

Other students like David Brown ‘18 will be balancing work and relaxation.

“I am going back home for the break and I am really looking forward to it. I have a few interviews for internships in Manhattan,” said Brown. “I am also planning on spending time with my family. It’s my grandmother’s 90th birthday so it should be fun.”
