The Pi Beta Phi sorority has put book donation boxes out around campus for their annual children’s book drive. Pi Beta Phi holds this drive annually in honor of Dr. Seuss’ birthday, posting on their Instagram that, “it’s a tradition and a simple yet meaningful way to give back to the community.”
Pi Beta Phi’s book drive aligns with the sorority’s philanthropic project “Read>Lead>Achieve,” a national philanthropic organization dedicated to fostering literacy among children. Pi Beta Phi states they believe “that reading and writing are fundamental privileges, and we’re passionate about spreading literacy throughout the Carlisle community.”
For their annual book drive, Pi Beta Phi partners with local elementary schools, especially those in need of new books. This year, Pi Beta Phi’s partner is Mooreland Elementary School, about five minutes away from the college on Wilson Street.
In addition to donating new children’s books to Mooreland Elementary, Pi Beta Phi is sending some of its members to Mooreland to read with kids.
Pi Beta Phi said, “literacy is a powerful tool that opens doors to opportunity, yet many children who grow up without access to books face lifelong disadvantages. By donating, you’re helping provide children with the resources they need to learn, grow and succeed. Every book makes a difference!”
