Rugby fans, St. Patrick’s Day celebrators and Guinness beer enthusiasts, the time has come. Dickinson is offering a new study-abroad program in Limerick, Ireland. Starting as early as Spring 2026, students can study at the University of Limerick.
While Dickinson offers more than 50 study-abroad options, the new Ireland program comes as a response to increased student interest in Europe. Associate Director of Education Abroad Jesse Phillips wrote:
“Outside of class, you can experience live traditional music, wander through medieval castles, or just hang out with new friends from Ireland and all over the world.” If listening to The Cranberries while roaming the historical cobblestone streets of Limerick does not sound appealing, maybe you will be excited to hear that “…there will be excursions to some of Ireland’s most famous natural landscapes,” during your time abroad.
Exploring all facets of tradition and culture in the country you visit is an integral part of the study abroad experience. Times Higher Education ranks the University of Limerick as one of the top 100 Young Universities of the World because of its rich submersion into Irish culture and rigorous academic courses.
The values and goals of Dickinson are prominent at the University of Limerick, including sustainability initiatives and strong sense of student prideThe program even offers curriculum and support for most Dickinson majors, including biology, chemistry, environmental science and mathematics.
While the Limerick, Ireland program is only available to students who have a declared major at the time of application, students are strongly encouraged to keep the option in mind if and when they start to consider where they want to go abroad.
Whether it is the opportunity for international diplomacy, the appeal of staying in a picturesque European city or the promise of celebrating St. Patrick’s Day in Ireland, the new study-abroad program seems perfect for many. There is currently no faculty director for the program, but interested students can find more information on the program’s website by the Center for Global Study and Engagement.
