The first time I read the title of this section, it immediately made me think of that John Lennon song where he enumerates all the things he doesn’t believe in. Magic, Kennedy, yoga, Beatles, you name it. “I just believe in me,” he said. For a moment I was tempted to follow his example and list all the things I don’t believe in. But then, of course, I decided to do exactly the opposite. Just for the sake of contradiction.
I believe that my letter from Hogwarts just got delayed. I believe that family is not only blood. I believe that light is a wave and a particle. I believe that chocolate counts as medicine. I believe that monsters do live under our beds when we are children and move out once we grow up and their job is done. I believe that people never die if we keep their memory alive. I believe in coincidence. In believe in a parallel universe full of unmatched socks and hair bands. I believe in fictional characters. I believe that there is no place like home and I believe that home can be everywhere. I believe in dinosaurs. I believe that waking up early should be reserved only for extremely severe circumstances. I believe that they lived happily ever after. I believe that falling trees are even noisier when there is no one there to hear them. I believe that having a beer with your friends on a terrace on a fine summer’s evening is therapeutic. I believe cartoons are not only for children. I believe that normal is overrated. I believe that one day I will cross a random door and step into Narnia. I believe in imaginary numbers. I believe that octopuses are acceptable pets. I believe that friendship never ends. I believe in dragons, good men, and other fantasy creatures. I believe that these are the best years of my life.
I believe that entropy and chance rule life as we know it. I believe at least six impossible things before breakfast. I believe that Mother Nature will kick our asses if we do not properly mind her. I believe in things whose pictures are not posted on Facebook. I believe that quite hours are sacred and therefore should be properly sanctified. I believe in education. I believe that most superheroes do not wear a cape. And yes, I also believe in me.
