Are the Food Options at Dickinson Fair for All Eaters?

Throughout the years Dickinson has made changes to their food system. The Snar was a place where mai bowls, burgers, and salads were sold. The Caf was always a place to go in and have options of different varieties of foods. In the quarry, it was usually just sandwiches, breakfast foods, pizza, and wings. Dickinson recently decided to change this system in preparing mai bowls in the caf. This should be changed.

Now, in order to get a mai bowl one has to wait in a very long line in the cafeteria. The taste is not how it used to be because they do not prepare it the same. Moving the mai bowls from the Snar to the cafeteria was a poor decision. It has caused the cafeteria to have less of an option of foods. Where they prepare the mai bowls now is where the grill used to be. The grill used to prepare different types of foods for students allowing them to have options. Now the options of the students are very limited.

Also, Dickinson does not have many options for people who are vegetarian/vegan. For a person who is vegetarian or vegan, they have one option;  the cafeteria. Whereas for others, there are different varieties of options. It is unfair for people who are vegetarian and vegan. The cafeteria only provides foods for vegetarians and vegans in spots like the salad bar and the Kove. Like mentioned before, this is very limited. Dickinson should really work in finding a way in providing more places around campus for vegetarians and vegans to eat. Even the food at the salad bar and at the Kosher are not really safe. For example, last academic year, mai bowls were prepared at the Snar. People who were vegetarian and wanted a mai bowl prepared their bowl and then gave it to the cook for it to be cooked on the grill. What many did not realize is that there are others who made their mai bowls with meat in it for it to be cooked at the same spot that the person who is vegetarian wanted it done. This automatically causes cross contamination. For many, this was an issue of not being able to trust where one’s food is being prepared and how it is being prepared. Many are still unaware of this situation and it is unfair that people have to go through this.
