Men’s Basketball Wins Three Straight

The Dickinson men’s basketball team tallied a 3-win streak with wins against against McDaniel College, Washington College, and Muhlenberg College moving to 7-6 in the Centennial Conference and 9-12 overall.
The game against McDaniel on February 2 was close until the very end as both teams fought hard to take the lead and stay there. Brandon Angradi ’16 started the game off with a 3 pointer and the teams battled to a 13-13 tie near the midpoint of the half. Angradi led a Red Devil charge late in the half, teaming up with Jule Brown ’19, Nick Kelly ’19, and Robert Picka ’17 to put Dickinson up 36-26 at halftime.
At the start of the second half, McDaniel immediately began to chip away at the Red Devils’ lead, cutting it down to just 4 two minutes in. Dickinson responded with a 7 point run of their own and stretched their lead back out to 48-35.
McDaniel battled back to tie the game with 5:48 left but Elijah Wright ’19 put Dickinson back out ahead 62-60 and Angradi and Ted Hinnenkamp ’16 both hit free throws in the final seconds to secure the Red Devil victory, 73-66.
Angradi led Dickinson in scoring with 23 points while Picka, Hinnenkamp, and Jon Stenger ’18 each collected 7 rebounds. Stenger also led the team in assists with 3.
The Red Devils were down early to Washington College 6-2 before rallying back to a 21-10 lead near the end of the first half and never looked back. The Shoremen pulled back within 5 at halftime but Dickinson stretched its lead back out again in the second half, leading by as much as 12 before Washington pulled back within 5. It wasn’t enough though, as the Red Devils held on to win 69-62.
Angradi and Hinnenkamp both had a huge second half against the Shoremen, combining for 33 of the Red Devils’ 40 second-half points. Hinnenkamp and Justus Melton ’18 led the team in rebounds with 8 each and Brown had the most assists with 4.
Against Muhlenberg, Hinnenkamp and Melton started off hot as Dickinson jumped out to a quick 8-0 lead. The Mules fought back and closed the margin but the Red Devils held the lead going into halftime, 36-33.
Hinnenkamp scored his 1000th point of his Red Devil career with a free throw at the end of the half. He joins fellow senior Angradi as two of the 26 players to accomplish the feat in Dickinson men’s basketball history.
Dickinson dominated the second half as well, continuing to extend their lead out to as much as 20 as they cruised to a 79-61 victory.
Hinnenkamp led the Red Devils in scoring with 17 points, Angradi tallied the most rebounds with 6, and Brown and Mike Hinckley both dished out 3 assists.

With these wins, Dickinson moves to 9-12 overall on the season and 8-6 in the Centennial Conference, keeping their playoff hopes alive. They move on to face Gettysburg College on the road on Wednesday.
