Track and Field Take 2nd Place at Home

This past Saturday, Feb. 6 the Track and Field programs hosted the DuCharme Invitational in the Kline Center. The Red Devils came out and represented Dickinson admirably, as both the men’s and women’s teams took home 2nd place finishes overall. Dickinson will return to action this Friday, Feb. 12 in both the Susquehanna Invitational in Selinsgrove, Pa. and the David Hemery Valentine Invitational in Boston.
The women’s event this weekend was culminated in great style, as the women’s 4x1600m team posted both a school and Kline Center record after winning the race with an incredible mark of 21:47.13. The record was five seconds faster than the previous Kline Center record, and 13 seconds faster than the previous Dickinson record. Sofia Canning ’18 ran the opening leg of the relay, followed by Mackenzie Shelgren ’16 and Adriana Frayne-Reixa ’17 before Rebecca Race ’16 secured the record for the Red Devils in the anchor spot. Shelgren and Canning ran run two in the individual mile race as well.
Dickinson started the proceeding race off in style as well. Carly Pierson ’16 claimed victory in the 5000m event with an 18:55.35 mark. Lucile Ionescu ’19 took third in the event. Other Red Devils winners included Abby Colby ’16 in the 3000m, Amanda Jimcosky ’17 in the high jump, Rikka Olson ’17 in the pole vault Aphnie Germain ’17 in the 200m sprint and the 4x400m team.
In the men’s events, Mason Hepner claimed victory in the 800m run dedicated to Rob Jansen. He posted a 1:58.81 time to take first. Hepner also anchored the 4x1600m relay team to a victory. Just as the women started in style, Duncan Hopkins ’19 claimed the 5000m event to jumpstart the day for the men with a time of 15:53.50. Eli Howard ’16 won the other distance event, the 3000m, with a time of 8:57.02. The Red Devils took each of the top four places in this event.
Marcus Robinson ’18, Miles Lindsey ’18, David Cook ’16, and Mark Manganaro ’16 combined to claim victory in the 4x200m relay with a 1:37.90 time.
In the women’s competition it was the Falcons of Messiah College who took home the spoils of the day, but not without the Red Devils right on their heels, as the final margin between first and second was a mere eight points at 172-164. Gettysburg claimed third in the eight-team field.
Messiah claimed the day on the men’s side as well with a dominant 187 points overall. The Red Devils had to battle to hold off Centennial Conference foe and rival Gettysburg to claim the second spot 138-134. It was a great achievement as they bested six other teams on the day.
Both teams will surely have their sights set on the Indoor Centennial Conference Championships which will take place Feb. 27-28.
