Women’s Tennis Strings Together Victories in Conference

The women’s tennis team claimed consecutive victories over conference opponents this past week to bounce back from a 3-match losing streak. The men’s team took down McDaniel in the midweek before falling to Gettysburg over the weekend. Both teams stand at an even 2-2 in the conference and will need to continue to notch their play up if they want to compete in postseason play this year.

The women’s team travelled to Ursinus College on Saturday, Apr. 2. After the double round the Red Devils had a 2-1 lead thanks to points in both of the top doubles flights. Lauren Altschuler’18 and Sydney Diamond’16 claimed the top flight with an 8-3 victory. Altschuler also cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 victory in the top singles flight. In the second doubles flight Madison Parks ’17 and Joana Nunes ’17 rolled to an 8-0 victory for the Red Devils. Nunes was able to claim the fourth flight in singles, with Sprague claiming the final and deciding point in the fifth flight in a three-set battle

On the following Tuesday, Apr. 5, the Red Devils rolled to a 9-0 sweep on McDaniel in their home opener. In all three doubles matches Dickinson claimed an 8-0 victory. Parks and Altschuler were particularly dominant in their top flight doubles match as they didn’t surrender a single point.

On the men’s side, Dickinson hosted the Green Terror from McDaniel on Wednesday, Apr. 6 for a Centennial Conference match. The Red Devils were able to not get bothered by windy conditions, coasting to a 9-0 sweep. The Red Devils claimed victory in each of the three doubles flights. Joey Frank ’16 secured the point in the top flight in straight sets, cruising in the second on way to a 6-4, 6-1 victory. Clark Chapman ’17 and Shawn Diniz ’18 also play strongly on their way to straight set victories in the second and third flights respectively.

The men’s and women’s teams will host Gettysburg in a double header on Tuesday, Apr. 12, beginning at 4 p.m. where both teams will look to break even in conference play.
