Golf: Women 5th, Men 6th at Conference Championships

The Dickinson men’s and women’s golf teams capped off their seasons this past weekend by finishing in 6th and 5th places, respectively, in the Centennial Conference Championship.

The women travelled to Foxchase Golf Club on Saturday and Sunday for the championship and struggled a little bit on the first day before rebounding on Sunday.  They finished the tournament with an overall team score of 771. On Saturday, Stephanie Heiring ‘17 led the way for Dickinson with a score of 95. Alexis Emmett ‘19 was one stroke behind Heiring with a 96. The women improved on Sunday, as Emmett took off eight strokes from her Saturday score, shooting an 88 to finish thirteenth overall in the individual standings. Heiring also improved on her Saturday score with a 94 to finish 16th in the individual standings. The fifth place finish for the women caps off a season in which the team had five top 5 finishes overall, including both the fall and the spring.

The men travelled to The Bridges Golf Club this past Friday, Saturday and Sunday to finish off their season at the Centennial Conference Championship, posting a final team score of 997. Like the women, the men got off to a slow start on their first day before rebounding later on in the weekend. Ryan Kowash ‘18 was at the head of the pack for Dickinson with a score of 83. Stephen Bonacci ‘19 and George Voris ‘16 followed closely behind, with scores of 85 and 86, respectively. On Saturday, the team had a better showing, with Bonacci and Bobby McFadden ‘19 both shooting 80 to set the pace for the Red Devils. Kowash shot another 83 to match his score from the first day. In the final round on Sunday, McFadden improved yet again, leading the team with an impressive 78. Sophomore Jake Kessel followed closely with an 82, his best round of the tournament, and Voris shot an 83, also his best round of the tournament. The men finished the fall and spring seasons with three top 5 finishes overall, including a third place finish, their best of the season, at the Dickinson Invitational.
