Outdoor Track Teams Set to Host Conference Championships

It was a busy weekend for men’s and women’s Track & Field.

The women’s 4×400 relay traveled to Philadelphia for the Penn Relays on Thursday, where they competed in the Centennial MAC Challenge. Jamie George ’17 led off the relay with a time of 1:03.09, followed by Naji Thompson ’19 and Caitlin Farrell ’18, who posted times of 1:05.14 and 1:04.01, respectively. Rebecca Race ’16 finished off the relay in strong fashion, running a 1:01.73. The Red Devils placed seventh in the event.

Mackenzie Shelgren ’16 competed in the women’s 3000 meters. She placed 17th in a field of mostly Division 1 athletes, running her way to a time of 10:14.90.

Two days later, the men’s and women’s teams traveled to Shippensburg University for the Paul Kaisser Invitational. Duncan Hopkins’ 16 and Eric Herrmann ’16 ran impressively for the Red Devil men, running times of 3:59.32 and 4:00.88 to place fourth and fifth in the 1500 meters. Herrmann, along with teammates William McCarthy ’17, William Chandler ’19 and Mason Hepner ’17, ran in the 4×400 meter relay, clocking a combined time of 3:27.35 to place fifth in the event. The men’s 4×800 meter relay also ran well, with Eli Laue ’17 joining Herrmann, McCarthy and Chandler. The men ran a strong 8:12.54, placing third.

On the women’s side, Rebecca Race followed up her strong Penn Relays performance with another impressive performance, winning the 1500 meters with a season-best time of 4:40.15. The women placed third in the 4×800 meter relay. Adriana Frayne-Reixa ’17 led off, followed by Hannah Gore ’18, Claire Connors ’19 and Maggie Dougherty ’17.

Other noteworthy performances on Saturday for the women include Amanda Jimcosky ’17 in the high jump, as the junior placed third by clearing a height of 1.58 meters. Aphnie Germain ‘17 ran a time of 26.83 in the 200 meters, the fourth fastest DIII time.

The men’s 4×100 meter relay placed eighth with a time of 44.92. Marcus Robinson ’18 led off the relay, with Stephen Black ’17 and Miles Lindsey ’18 following. Mark Manganaro ’16 anchored the relay.

Overall, it was a great weekend for the Dickinson men and women. The Red Devils host the Centennial Conference Championships from May 6-8 in Carlisle. It should be an exciting weekend of events on campus for the men and women. Come out to Biddle Field for the festivities.
