Women’s Soccer Ties Randolph-Macon, Blows Out Penn St.-Altoona

Alexandra Goldrich scored her first collegiate goal in the contest against Penn St.-Altoona.

The Dickinson women’s soccer team played Randolph Macon College to a double-overtime, 1-1 tie on Thursday, September 1 in their season opener and followed up with a 5-0 win at Penn State-Altoona Saturday, going 1-0-1 in their first week of play.

The Red Devils held the advantage in possession for a majority of the game against the Randolph Macon, doubling up the Yellow Jackets in shots, 26-13. Olivia Termini ’19 scored the Red Devils’ only goal of the contest in the 28th minute, sneaking the ball into the right corner of the net.

Randolph Macon tied the game with just over 20 minutes left to play in the match, as junior Kasey Martino put the ball into the net off of a free kick.

Momentum shifted back and forth throughout the second half with both teams creating chances, but neither could manage to land the ball in the net. Both squads kept the intensity up through two overtime periods, neither one gaining an edge over the other, ending the match in a tie.

Mary Katherine Brosnan ’19 made four saves, earning the start in the Dickinson nets.

The Red Devils held the Yellow Jackets to 0 corners while tallying 12 of their own. Addy Zandt ’20 served up a number of dangerous serves, putting a pair of attempts on net.

Alexandra Goldrich ’18 and Zandt each scored a goal and tallied an assist to lead the way against Penn State-Altoona. Zandt put the Devils on the board, scoring the first goal of her collegiate career off an assist from Goldrich in the 22nd minute of the match.

The Red Devils scored four more times in the opening 10 minutes Zandt assisted Goldrich to start the second half, leading her to score just 1:49 into the final period of regulation.

Just over a minute later, Elizabeth Krause ’20 put the Red Devils up 3-0, thanks to an assist from Briona Davis ’19.

Rachel Lazris ’20 found the net in the 52nd minute before Davis fed Sienna Zittle ’20 with her second assist of the afternoon.

The Red Devils turned in a dominant performance overall, outshooting the host Lions, 38-11, holding a 6-2 advantage in corners. Lazris, Zittle, Zandt, and Krause each scored the first goals of their collegiate careers. Amanda Masterson ’18 made six saves in the goal to clinch the shutout for the Red Devils.

Dickinson returns home to face Lycoming College next Thursday, September 8th at 6:00 p.m.
