Misrok Records 1000th Career Dig vs. York

Arielle Misrok ’17 picked up the 1,000th of her career in the Red Devils’ 3-0 loss to York College on Saturday, September 10.

The Dickinson women’s volleyball team went 2-3 in their second week of play, beating Goucher College in 3 sets, Penn State – Harrisburg in 5, but falling to Misericordia, Lycoming, and York at the Lycoming College Warrior Classic. The Red Devils opened with a 25-18 lead in the     first set and held off the Gophers, 25-21, to take a 2-0 lead. The Red Devils closed out the match in the third, 25-13.

Norma Jean Park ’18 led the Red Devils’ attack against the Owls, tallying 9 kills and 2 aces. Dickinson recorded 14 aces overall on the night as Alex Berezan ’20, Lauren Ahern ’17 and Jacqueline Banker ’19 each had 3 aces.

Ahern added 4 kills and Banker picked up five digs.

Erin Bongo ’18  tallied eight kills and five digs and Arielle Misrok ’17 recorded 10 digs, three assists and an ace as the Red Devils beat Goucher 3-0.

In their opener at the Lycoming College Warrior Classic on Friday night, September 9, Dickinson battled hard throughout the entire match but fell to Misericordia, 3-2. The Red Devils dropped the opening set 25-17 but battled back to take the second 25-16 and took a 2-1 lead in the match after winning the third set, 25-20. The Cougars managed to force a fifth set with a 25-22 victory in the fourth and completed the comeback with a 16-14 win in the tiebreaker.

The Red Devils lost their first set against host Lycoming College, 25-19 before evening the match at 1-1 with a 25-22 victory in set 2. The Warriors would strike back, however, taking the final 2 sets by scores of 25-14 and 25-22 to claim the match.

The Red Devils suffered a 25-23 opening set loss against York and the Spartans claimed the second, 25-12, before Dickinson put up another strong challenge in the third but still fell, 25-21.

Bongo led the squad with 9 kills, 7 digs and 2 aces in the match. Park had 5 kills, 2 aces and 3 blocks. Berezan handed out 18 assists while Anastasiia Khlopina ’18 added four kills. Misrok recorded her 1,000th career dig on her way to recording 10 in the match.

The Red Devils fought off Penn State – Harrisburg for a 3-2 victory in their second match of the day. Penn State narrowly claimed the first set, 25-22, before the Red Devils countered with back-to-back wins in the two following sets 25-21 and 25-18, pulling in front by a tally of 2-1.

The Lions came back to win the fourth set, 25-18, and force a tiebreaker. The final set was a nail-biter as both teams remained within 2 points of each other for most of the round, with Dickinson coming out on top, 16-14.

Bongo tallied 16 kills along with 9 digs, 2 aces and 2 assists in the match. Ahern totaled 11 kills and 4 aces to go with 6 digs. Park added 11 kills, 2 aces and 2 blocks on her way to earning All-Tournament Team honors.

Misrok’s 23 digs raised her career total to 1,028. She also dished out 6 assists and 3 aces in the match. Berezan had 23 assists to go with 3 kills. Grace Stromberg ’19 added seven kills while Khlopina had four.

After last week’s action, the Red Devils move to 4-5 so far this season. They return to Carlisle for the season’s first home game on Wednesday night, hosting Penn State Harrisburg in a rematch of Saturday’s game at 7:00 p.m.
