The Dickinson football team kept the game close for three quarters but couldn’t pull out a win against Mulhenberg on Saturday.

Despite a hard fought game, the Red Devils football team fell to the Mules of Muhlenberg College 25-6 at Biddle Field to begin Centennial Conference play.

After trailing 9-0 going into halftime and losing starters Jake Walbert ’19, Darrion Bunce ’18, and Billy Burger ’19 due to injuries, Dickinson came out on their first possession and marched down the field with a 12-play drive, capped off with a 13-yard touchdown pass from backup QB  Robert Geiss ’21 to wide reciever Kyle Donahue ’18.

After a pair of field goals by the Mules in the third, the Red Devils trailed by just nine points going into the fourth quarter. The Mules ended up scoring ten points in the final quarter to secure the victory.

Despite a low-scoring effort from Dickinson, the team totaled 18 first downs and converted on 50 percent of their third down plays. Not be overlooked, Jeremy Walsh ’20 ran hard all game and rushed for 94 yards behind the physical play of the offensive line.

In a post-game interview with Graham Klimley ’19, head football coach Brad Fordyce discussed that the team had success moving the ball but struggled to finish drives and put points on the board. Defensively speaking, the Red Devils were, “right where we want to be,” going into half time and needed to finish as just well. The defense finished with five sacks, a fumble recovery, and held their opponent to only 29 percent on their third down conversions.

In a post-game interview, Geiss explained how he felt nervous on his first ever college snap stepping in for Billy Burger ’19 after his injury, but also felt prepared and confident in his reads due to reps in practice. Moving forward, both Geiss and coach Fordyce are excited to be a part of their first “Battle for the Brown Bucket” game as Dickinson takes on Gettysburg College in Gettysburg on Saturday, Sept. 19 at 1 p.m.
